James Condition update June 8th From Jennifer Mallozi

I've been out of town but spent Monday night with him. I would say that there are improvements. He got the halo off just about a week ago. He has some movement in neck side to side and up and down. The muscles are weak. He looks fantastic! The repair to his esphogaus is healing nicely. He has passed the swallow test and has started on liquids, jello and will be moving on to more solid foods soon!!! He has been off the ventilator for quite a while so his breathing is doing well. He has learned to speak with the tracheostomy tube and that is a huge relief to all of us. He told my friend the other he could feel it when he squeezed his toes.

He does have a staph infection and didn't feel well the other night I was there. He is in isolation b/c of it and still in the ICU. Should be moving to a regular room soon. He is till working with physical and occupational therapy. We are all waiting for the rehab place to say he is ready!!
