Race Report: Southwick
Motocross 338, deep in the heart of "downtown" Southwick, Massachusetts has a long history of brutal weather, and gnarly track conditions, this week was no exception. While not quite as hot or humid as usual, it was still plenty warm in this little nook of extreme southern Massachusetts, and the track - which at one point was probably a lot like beach sand, but is now more silt-like in consistency - lived up to its reputation. Regardless, James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto still easily (very easily, in fact) won each of their motos as the series heads into the finale at Steel City next weekend. |

Race Report: Spring Creek
he Spring Creek Motocross National presented by Honda was home to the crowning of two champions this weekend - neither of which rode a Honda. Monster Energy/Kawasaki's James Stewart and Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto both earned their respective Motocross and Motocross Lites AMA #1 plates as 20,000+ fans witnessed the action. |

Race Report: Washougal
Easily the most picturesque course on the AMA Toyota Motocross National circuit, Washougal MX Park just north of Portland, Oregon hosted Round 10 of the series this past weekend. It proved to be quite an eventful Sunday, despite the fact that the two series leaders - James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto - had all but wrapped up their series titles before the racing even began. But at least in the Lites class this time around, a surprise moto and overall winner - Rockstar/Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey - helped to breathe some life into that series, just before a two-week long break that will give him time to think about what he'd just accomplished. |

Race Report Unadilla 2008
The green rolling hills of upstate New York hold a special place in the history of American motocross. For well over 30 years, national and international-level races have been held at the track which literally seems to be in the middle of nowhere; this track is the Unadilla Valley Sports Center. Despite the inconvenience of zero cell phone coverage, sketchy internet access, and unpredictable weather; race fans and racers alike gather to witness some of the greatest mud riding of the season. |

Budd's Creek Report
The 2008 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship entered the second half of the season as the seventh round of the series wrapped up this weekend at Budds Creek MX Park in Southern Maryland, host of the 2007 Motocross of Nations. Just like the MXoN, though, Ryan Villopoto once again put on a riding clinic for his competition. And while Stewart didn't get the chance to ride in the MXoN last year, he still managed to dominate this weekend despite missing out on the prestigious race. It was also a weekend of surprise returns from riders who had recently been injured, including David Vuillemin, but also Sean Hamblin and Davi Millsaps. |

Race Report: Budd's Creek
This past weekend, the seventh round of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championships was held in Southern Maryland just 50 miles south of our Nation's capital. Built and managed by Jonathan Beasley, Budds Creek started out as a practice track in the early 1970's, but has steadily improved throughout the years. It was incorporated into the AMA Motocross Championship in 1989 and since then has hosted numerous local, national, and international events including last year's memorable Motocross of Nations. Sadly, the event attracted a rather light crowd this year-the fact that it was held almost a month after its typical Father's Day weekend schedule in mid-June may have contributed to the light turnout. |

Red Bud
If there is one round on the AMA National Motocross circuit that everyone involved with the sport always look forward to, it's probably Red Bud. Historically held on or around Independence Day, it's come to be known as "America's Track". Based on every factor that defines a great race and event weekend, this weekend's national was no different, as it provided drama, suspense, excitement, beauty, action, surprise and, unfortunately, near-tragedy. Let's get down to it, here's what really happened at Red Bud, but before you read on, be sure to get caught up on everything else by clicking the below links. |

Race Report: Red Bud
Red Bud Track'n'Trail just north of Buchanan, Michigan, is quite possibly the most popular course on the AMA Motocross National circuit-and that's from both the fan's and rider's perspectives. Set in sandy/clay soil, rolling green hills not far north of South Bend, Indiana, Red Bud continues to improve year after year and has become over the years what many consider to be this country's premier motocross facility. The racing here rarely disappoints, despite the fact that this season has become as predictable as many had feared. Runaway wins characterized the racing in both classes, again, with Kawasaki riders James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto easily winning each of their motos to put even more of a gap on the field in the season points chase. As usual, the story developed in the battles behind these two standouts, and the huge crowd on hand for this annual Independence Day weekend moto-frenzy enjoyed every second of it. |

Race Report: Colorado
It goes without saying that heading into the fifth round of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championships the big news was the fact that it was going to be held at night. Just outside of Denver in Lakewood, Colorado, at the picturesque Thunder Valley Raceway, the crew worked tirelessly in the weeks leading up to prepare the track for arguably the most anticipated race of the 2008 season. As for the racing, though, things really didn't change a lot for the front runners, as yet again, Team Monster Energy Kawasaki's James Stewart and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto topped the field in the Motocross and Motocross Lites classes respectively. For more on all the details that went down, though, be sure to check out the Racer X Motocross Show on Motocross.com. For now, we'll give you the highlights along with a photo gallery to see just how it all looked. |

High Point
This past weekend marked the 32nd edition of the High Point AMA Toyota Motocross National in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania. Having personally witnessed at least 20 of those puts us in a good position to comment on the wide variety of changes that the track, spectators, and racers have gone through over a good portion of that history. That, along with the fact that there was a lot to talk about even if the track itself wasn't the real story, means there's a ton of stuff to go over for this week's What Really Happened. And as always, if you missed any of the other coverage, click the links below before getting into the WRH report. |

Race Report: High Point
For 32 years there's been a National Motocross Championship series race at Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania, and every year it's pretty well been the definition of motocross, east-coast style. Well known for it's rough, demanding circuit with hills, ruts, tacky clay soil, off-camber sections, and a tendency for lots of rain, High Point once again managed to deliver the goods needed for a great weekend of racing. |

Hangtown
June 1, 2008 marked the 34th anniversary of the Hangtown Motocross Classic, which has long been considered Nor-Cal's finest contribution to the sport of motocross. Although the modern race isn't located on precisely the same spot as the original (which was down the road in Plymouth), the Prairie City SRVA park just outside of Rancho Cordova, California. And just to be truly correct, we'll toss out the ‘official' name of the event, which was: 34th Annual Honda Hangtown Motocross Classic Presented by Jackson Rancheria Hotel and Casino. It's good to see that another Native American tribe has gotten involved to support the sport, and outside money is of course always welcome in a sport and industry that is genuinely struggling in the current economic times. Throughout the weekend, we had lots of coverage on Motocross.com, so as a service to you, and to make things easier, below are some links. |

Las Vegas
Well, it's finally over. The 2008 Monster Energy Supercross Series concluded this past weekend at UNLV's Sam Boyd Stadium in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada. Chad Reed was crowned the 2008 Supercross class champion while Ryan Dungey schooled the best of the Lites riders from each coast to take a hard-earned and somewhat shocking win over Ryan Villopoto in the Dave Coombs, Sr. East/West Shootout for the second year in a row. That means Dungey is batting 1.000 in East/West Shootouts, since this is only his second year racing pro Supercross. Like other years, however, there's so many things going on for the Supercross finale that the actual racing itself can seem like a sideshow. What with the various one-off helmet designs, cool jersey lettering, bike graphics, the crazy wide-open pit party (this year was complete with a wake-board demo) and all of the various silly-season rumors to round-up, well, let's just say that the Vegas race is sometimes a bit overwhelming for a journalist. Regardless, we took a look around and kept our ears to the ground to see what we could come up with... |

Seattle Lite
Ever since the Seattle Supercross was added to the schedule a few years back, it has been a mud race, or nearly a mud race. This year, early forecasts called for rain; however, once the weekend came around it was nothing but clear blue skies and perfect racing weather. As for the track though, it didn't hold up as well as everyone would have liked. In preparation for the rain that everyone thought would surely materialize, Dirt Wurx decided to combine a lot of road base-a mostly rocky soil-with dirt that had numerous rocks in it. If it had rained, the track probably would have held up pretty well. Without the rain, though, it developed technical ruts, and many of the riders weren't too pleased with the amount of rocks that were found on the racing surface. Thankfully, we heard that Dirt Wurx is planning on getting all new dirt for next year's race. The nice weather did bring out throngs of fans though. Walking though the pits was no easy task, especially when James Stewart was there. |

St. Louis
My how things can change in a week. When we left the Monster Energy Supercross Series last weekend in Detroit, everything had gone amok in both classes. Chad Reed's practice miscue had forced a breath of fresh air into the Supercross class, while knocking it out of him. The point gap for the series lead was once again down to less than a race between Reedy and Kevin Windham, who came into St. Louis this week only 16 points out of the lead. In the Lites class, Ryan Villopoto had continued closing the gap on Torco Racing Fuels/Honda's Trey Canard to come within three points going into the final round of the series here in St. Louis-the Gateway to the West. So without wasting anymore time, let's get into it. Also, if you missed any of the coverage from over the week, click the links below and get all caught up. |

Detroit
This past weekend was a busy one for the motocross industry. As if another round of the 2008 Monster Energy Supercross Championships (and it's next-day television coverage) wasn't enough to keep the fans occupied, ESPN chose this as the weekend to debut their (potentially) annual event deemed the Navy Moto-X World Championships. The only problem with it was that half of the invited rider list was in Detroit, while the other half was practicing on the ESPN track in San Diego. What to do? That's easy-race an AMA Supercross on Saturday night, hop on a private jet and get to San Diego in time for practice on Sunday morning, right? Not exactly-just ask Nick Wey. The MDK/KTM rider was only able to get a commercial flight that eventually arrived in San Diego at 11:00 AM local time -the same time that practice was scheduled to begin. In other words, no track time for tricky Nicky. Not to mention that it wasn't even a direct flight-he had to connect in Denver after leaving Detroit at 6:00 AM. But what appeared to be the makings of a nightmare proved to be a blessing in disguise, as Wey not only made the main event in San Diego, but pulled off a second place-15 spots better than he did in Detroit. Other riders who made the two-hop early morning trek to Qualcomm Stadium were Eric Sorby, Joe Oehlhof, Ryan Clark, Heath Voss, Jiri Dostal, and Troy Adams. |

Dallas
Round 13 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship took place in the Texas Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, this past weekend. Unlike last year, the weather cooperated and allowed more than 47,000 fans to enjoy some serious racing under fairly dry conditions. The hole in the roof of the Stadium (apparently made "so that God can watch his favorite team play" - according to former team linebacker D. D. Lewis) has been known to produce muddy conditions in past venues, but that wasn't the case this year. |

Anaheim II
In case you didn't already know, Anaheim II was a throwback to 1986 with a replica track, retro gear, and florescent ‘80s outfits. Back in '86, Anaheim marked the night when arguably one of the best battles in SX history took place between Team Honda teammates Rick Johnson and David Bailey. The two riders swapped the lead position numerous times, before Bailey ultimately took the win. This past weekend, the retro track provided some excellent racing, however, the ‘80s throwback theme wasn't all the news there was, as Team Monster Energy Kawasaki's James Stewart made a surprise announcement right before the night show started that he would likely be out for the season. There was also a few riders who got their first podium, and a rider that will likely be the one to beat this season in the SX class. To get filled in on all that went down on the track check out the links below.
