Travis Pastrana will Race Maine Forest Rally The VSC Subaru team is ready to roll on the rough and rocky gravel logging roads of the Maine Forest Rally this weekend. Team drivers Travis Pastrana and Ken Block will be compete on over 80 miles of Maine back roads in their Michelin shod Group N class Subaru WRX STi rally cars. The rally is based in the area around the Sunday River Ski resort in western Maine.
The rally begins Friday afternoon with 4 competitive stages that will run into the early evening. Saturday's action includes 5 stages that take competitors through western Maine and New Hampshire. The rally concludes late in the afternoon Saturday. Many of the roads used on the rally are gravel logging roads that feature high speed and slow twisty sections. Large rocks and dusty conditions add to the challenge.
Pastrana and Block are looking forward to using Maine to try out some new skills they learned from a recent test session with former US and British Rally Champion David Higgins. "It may take a rally or two to fully develop the new skills Higgins taught us, but we definitely got some new info and techniques that we can utilize this weekend," explains Ken Block.
Additionally the drivers and co-drivers visited VSC's new shop this week to take part in a technical tutorial on their rally cars.
Anything can happen in rallying and many times the driver and co-driver will need to perform roadside repairs in order to keep going. The technical training may come in handy on the rocky roads that Maine is notorious for.
Block and Pastrana will look to once again build their rally experience at Maine while pushing enough to stay toward the top of the leaderboard. Coming into Maine they sit 3rd and 4th overall in their class (Group N).
