Personal History
My name is Adam Dawson, I'm 35 years young and I currently live in Circleville, Ohio. I grew up in a very small village (Groveport, OH) where my love for riding began. I was destined to ride motocross, my father grew up riding as well and eventually became a 250B district 11 champion. I have an older brother by 2 years and we shared the same passion for the sport. However, I wasn't the Jett Lawrence of the family, my brother was the one gifted with the no fear attitude that I takes to be a talented rider. I started out riding an ATC 70 3 wheeler and a PW50. Never did any racing at a very young age, but we sure did a lot of riding around the property. My first big bike was a Kawasaki 80 which I had for about a year and then ask dad to trade it in for a Yamaha! I had to be like my big brother, who was riding a Yamaha 125 and 250 at the time. In my early teens is when I got into competitive racing and we spent every weekend attending motocross events all over Ohio and fair races during the week if we could. My greatest moments are spent at Honda Hills in Thornville, OH, where we competed in the Friday night series under the lights at the very iconic track. My career on 80's were at best top 10. The 80sr class was stacked with some good talent, one known rider was Michael Willard. I just remember if you had him in your sights then at the moment you were doing good. LOL. Fast forward a bit, In 2005 I moved up from 80's to 250's, because the Yamaha 250 that was my brothers was the only bigger bike we had. I told dad that I could handle it. Did some practicing and then took her racing. Pulled 2 holeshots in the 250c class my very first race on the big bike. I went 3 and 1 that day with a 2nd overall. The next day to that weekend was a mudder and I never did enjoy those mud races. We packed up to go attend a 3rd race on Memorial Day at a different track. This would be my final race for a very long time. We had about 22 riders on the gate and I think I was 6th at the first corner, rode about 4 laps before having my career ending accident. Fractured 3 verdebrees in my lower back and was stuck in a brace for 6 months. Scared the family and myself. Dad sold the bikes and life moved on.
Became a Design Engineer, which I still do to this day for 16 years now. Met my wife in 2009 and marred her in 2014. Our baby girl was born in 2013 and she's now 9. I tried hard to getting my daughter to ride, but she just wasn't about it. She likes the girly stuff. However, I did get a 1985 ATC 70 and she loves riding it around our 2 acres. Bought my first big bike in 2021, which was a Honda crf250r. Did a couple races that year to realize how out of shape I was and that the motocross track just wasn't where I wanted to be. Sold the Honda and bought a brand new 2022 KTM 250 XCW, to which I still have. Did a lot of riding around the house and trails across Ohio. Attended one enduro race last year and my goal was just to finish. The race was 2hours long, never have I rode that long ever. I paced myself and didn't quit. Finished like 8th out of 12 in the 30+ class. Didn't have the opportunity to attend another race. But, I think I'm hooked on this enduro stuff.
Riding Goals
To compete in as many events in the 2023 OXCR series. 12 races and I got them all on the calender. Winter workouts have started in preparing for the first race in Spring. My goal is just to attend and finish the best I can. See where that puts me at the end of the year.
