Personal History
I have riden dirt bikes for a total of four years, this is my fifth year. I started riding in 2002, just doing some local harescrambles and recreational bush riding. I did that for two years and thoroughly enjoyed myself. At that point I was no longer able to ride due to the fact that i no longer had access to a bike. In 2007 I was given my old bush bike and began riding at the local track. I realized I loved motocross and began practicing like mad. Then in October 2007 I bought a 2007 Yamaha YZ250F. In the 2008 year I worked my tail off to push my way to the podium in the Ladies B class at the local track. I have competed in everything from harescrambles to arenacross and I am loving what I am doing and I plan to continue racing and having fun as long as I can.
Besides motocross, I like to hang out with my friends and go snowboarding or skiing at Sunshine. I also enjoy kayaking, camping, mountain biking and spending time with my family. This past summer I learned to play polocrosse, which is essentially lacrosse on horseback. It is very fun and excellent for conditioning on those days I don't ride bikes.
Riding Goals
Having just started track riding a two years ago I have many goals that i would like to accomplish by the end of the season or before then if possible. Some of these goals include working hard at becoming faster out of the corners and clearing some of the larger jumps such as the 70 foot finish line jump, and the large 95 foot one-ten on our large "Pro track". Compared with my riding abilities from last year at the track my level off competition has greatly increased and I believe my placement in the WRMA Fall Series Ladies class has greatly helped to increase my speed and agility. Recently I completed a jump that I had been having some issues with. One of my goals is finally completed!
Competitive Highlights
Last year was the first season that I have raced in specific classes under CMRC. Last February I travelled to Lethbridge to compete in the 14th Annual Alberta Arenacross Championships. In both of my qualifiers and in both of my races I placed third. That was my first race on my new 2007 Yamaha YZ250F. Being a student it is difficult to travel to different tracks around the province to be able to compete on a limited budget. Therefore I was unable to attend the CMRC Spring Series Races in 2008. On the other hand I did compete in all the races at the local track here in Calgary. In my first race of the Series I placed 6th and was happy that I had not finished last having suffered a fall. Throughout the course of the Series my confidence in gate starts increased as well as my confidence in my own abilities as a rider. By the end of the Series I had worked my way up to the top to finish 2nd Overall in the Ladies B class. For the Fall Series, riders placing in the 1st and 2nd positions must move to Ladies A category. In the fall I decided to move to the Ladies A group to both improve my riding skills and race with people of the same ability. Over the course of the Fall Series my race results remained very much the same, which pleased me but also disappointed me. I realised that although my abilities as a rider were greatly increasing, everyone else's were too. This held me back from acceling in the Ladies A class. I hope this year will prove better than last.
