Personal History

My name is James Kuhlman and I am 15 years old. I grew up in southern California in south Orange County and moved to north Texas in 2020 for my mom’s job. My favorite moments in life have had to do with dirt bikes. I am passionate about motocross and how it helps me to push my personal limits. It makes me a better human.

Throughout my life I have had some obstacles with medical conditions that made me and my family approach everything more thoughtfully. Food allergies are not for the faint of heart and as a child I had to make choices about what I ate that most adults would struggle with. My parents embraced a very clean and holistic lifestyle as a result. This really taught me to focus on results and not feelings.

Spring of 2023, my dad and I lived in our motorhome at 4State MX Track in Missouri for full time training with Shannan Niday for a few months. Today I homeschool through Liberty University Online Academy as a sophomore. I ride three to four times a week at tracks thought our north Texas.

Riding Goals

2023 being my first-year racing, I aim to be a very technical and clean rider.  I take ownership of my workouts, diet, and discipline so that I can continue to improve my strength and endurance on the track.  I also spend time learning about my bikes and all the mechanics of them.  It helps me to interpret adjustments on the bike to know how it will impact my ride.

I am a student of the game and keep up on other riders both in my class as well as others.  It is important to me to know who my competition is and as much about their style as possible.  I also have been really focused on getting to know regional people in MX including trainers, track owners, and industry people.

Competitive Highlights

It's my first-year racing and I am pretty proud of what I have accomplished so far.  My biggest competitive advantage is the support I have from my family.  Being homeschooled has provided me extra time to focus on my mental game, strategy, goals, and evaluation of my performance.

I also have some great people to mentor me as well.  Shannon Niday has been a great trainer advancing my technical skills quickly.  I also have great support from Rydane Dixon with Merge Racing Technologies.  Rydane was a former factory Suzuki mechanic and he has been guiding me on my bike set-up.

I am a serious athlete who does not screw around. I believe in acting maturely and respectfully to everyone that I encounter.  I give my all to improve whatever it is that I am doing regardless of how I feel at the moment.  Character is as important to me as is performance on the bike.
