Personal History

My name is Michael Brett Slater and I live in Chesnee SC. I am 20 years old and after graduating from high school, I am currently in my third year of college.  I am a very outgoing person and love people.  I have volunteered at the Children's Shelter for several years and I also work with many preschool and schoool-age children at a local day care.  I go on field trips, tutor, help with teaching baseball, football, and basketball skills.  I enjoy working with children.  I am a member of Cudd Memorial Baptist Church.  Although I have a busy schedule with school, helping at Nana's Day Care, training and riding everyday, and racing every weekend, I am very fortunate that because of great parents I do not currently have to work.  I do work in the Summer when I am not in school. Because of a very good friend that owns a local motorcycle shop I have been able to learn a lot about my motorcycle and to do my own maintenance on my bikes which I enjoy.   I raced motorcycles until around the age of 12 and I took a break to play quarterback in high school and college.  I returned to racing this past year.  I raced some Ultra and Mega Series races.  Raced the Indoor Series and area and regional qualifiers.  I qualied for Loretta Lynn Nationals in two classes.  I will be racing 125B this coming season.  Motocross racing is a very good sport and I enjoy meeting so many wonderful people.  I have many lifelong friends from this sport.  Over the past 10 years I have played on many teams in basketball, football, and baseball.  But I feel racing motocross has helped me more because it requires 100% from me not my team mates and I have to push myself and not depend on anyone else.

Riding Goals

My goals for this year is to race as many races as possible.  To Practice and train harder than ever. Qualify for the nationals.

Competitive Highlights

I have many competitive highlights from when I raced when I was younger before taking a break.  However, this past year is very much a highlight for me because I returned to racing last year after taking a 8 year break and I raced every weekend and finished top 5 consistently.  I finished second overall in the indoor series.  Won the Tennessee State Motocross Championship in two classes.  Also won Tennessee and North Carolina Indoor State Championship.  Finished fourth in two classed in the Mis-East Area qualifier. Finished second in two classes in the North-East Area Qualifier.  Had 2-eighth place and 1-fourth place finish in the South-East Area Qualifier.  Finished third and fifth at the North-East Regional at Steel City.
