Personal History

An Old School Motocross Veteran: I came back to Motocross after 31 years!  I'm a proud public servant at the Railroad Commission of Texas. I've worked for the state for 16 years as a Budget, Financial Analyst. I also volunteer and participate in activities for Non-profit organizations in our community such as (CASA) Texas Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children, Susan G. Komen Brest Cancer Organization, The Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas, Wounded Warrior Project.

Riding Goals

My dedication with my physical training to re-enter the sport of motocross started in 2014. I never lost the passion to ride and compete again. My hard work at the gym (Sponsored by Hyde Park Gym) consisting of a five day a week training schedule for the past three years paid dividends. My goal was to run a 10k within an hour and this year completed The Austin Capital 10k within an hour plus 1 minute. Now, my training continues and includes riding my 2016 KX250F. Training has paid off.

Why did I give up motocross in 1987? I had to choose between education and motocross. Career and family became the next priorities.

My Goals:

Most important for me is staying healthy.  My contribution back into the sport will have a  focus with promoting charity races.  There's a "Cancer Race For Research" at River Valley MX this Mid-September. The "Over the Hill Gang" (Facebook) from Austin are in support of this cause.. My goal in 2017 will be to participate in the (45+ class) AMA series and network with track owners, local business and families to encourage and promote local charities in their community. In my determination with making this successful, I aspire to strongly promote businesses who wish to contribute to these endeavors.

Competitive Highlights

My typewriter (now vintage) written resume starts out on May 18, 1980.  Same day Mount Saint Helens erupted. From that point on, everyone knew me as Bonsai Billy. My 1980's resume is several pages long and includes all the NMA, AMA and GNC Texas Series races along with my local race history. I'm in the process of trying to find locate the resume. I attended Bob Hanna and Steve Wise motocross school twice and was privileged to have my own private practice track. I made the podium several times with some of the old school stars but faded out when resources became thin. I picked up a few local sponsors but the support was minimal.

Thank you for consideration,

Billy
